Are You A Victim Or A Creator?

Are You A Victim Or A Creator?

Choose wisely because the rest of your life could depend on it.

I’m going to draw an imaginary line right down the middle of your life. On one side of the line you have designated yourself to be a victim on the other side you are deemed to be a creator.

When you are on the victim side of life your responsibility for your circumstances plummets almost to zero. The activities you like to partake in include; blaming others, blaming nature, complaining, and all around feeling sorry for yourself.

When you take just one step over to the creator side of life amazing things begin to occur. Circumstance is no longer out of your control, in fact it becomes a direct reflection of your actions. Instead of complaining and blaming others for your situation you own up to it and take the necessary steps to improve upon your life.

So I ask you, which side of life are you on?

Quite Frankly, I Don’t Believe You

Image result for i don't believe you

You say you don’t reside on the victim side of life but I’m not convinced.

If the phrase “be realistic” is used in your vocabulary then you are not a creator. Creators defy what is “realistic” because their reality is not set by circumstance, others, or societal norms.

If you complain about people, the news, the economy, the weather, entertainment, or your job…guess what? You are not a creator. Creators never waste precious time or energy complaining about such things. Instead of complaining, creators take deliberate action toward changing something they don’t like or on the flip-side they don’t give a shit at all because these everyday complaints have no effect on them whatsoever.

If you blame your current situation on anyone or anything, then once again, you are not a creator. Those who hand out blame show little responsibility for their life and thus believe their circumstance is not their fault. Creators on the other hand understand that their circumstance is no ones fault but their own which gives them the unique advantage of continually improving upon their current selves.

How about now? Do you still fancy yourself a creator? If not, don’t fret about it, for it is time to learn about creators themselves.

Creators Love Obstacles

Yeah, it sounds funny right? Who the hell in their right mind loves obstacles? Well…as the title says “creators love obstacles” and here’s why:

1) Obstacles Create Resilience

The process involved in overcoming a setback is usually not one that is enjoyed. However, what the process teaches us is resilience. In my perspective, resilience is having the emotional stability to bounce back from any type of surprise life throws at you.

Creators understand that this is a key attribute toward living a happier life. When one is accustomed to getting knocked down they become just as accustomed to getting right back up.

2. Obstacles Teach You About Yourself

When put in a difficult situation you have no choice but to operate at a higher level. You are forced to match yourself up against whatever it is you are facing at the time otherwise you will falter in defeat.

These rough patches in everyone’s life are crucial in one’s own understanding of thyself. Obstacles light the way for abilities you never knew you had, ideas that were never present, and strength you didn’t realize you possessed.

3. Obstacles Make Life Interesting

Without obstacles or challenges, life can be downright boring! This is one of the reasons why creators love obstacles so much.

When we accept, or better yet, embrace obstacles that enter our life, every day becomes a new exciting adventure for us to tackle.

Creators Don’t Wait For Approval

They just do it.

If you want to do something and feel it within you that it is the right move, then what the hell are you waiting for?!?

We all have great ideas, so what’s the difference between those who cash out on them and those who don’t? Isn’t it obvious? The ones who execute on their ideas are the only people who get anywhere in this life.

I can guarantee there was a time where you saw an advertisement for a product or service and shouted out “that motherfucker stole my idea!”.

That’s right, not only did they steal your idea but they stole your opportunity for success and fortune. Now who’s fault is that? Silly victim, success is for creators! (Think Trix cereal…you’ll get it)

Stop overthinking and stop waiting for approval. As the wise Shia LaBeouf once said “Just Do It”.

Creators Create Their Own Reality

Will Smith, someone I believe we all can learn from said something extremely powerful on a video I watched several years ago. It is still to this day the most powerful quote I ever heard. He said:

“Living in reality is the most commonly traveled road to mediocrity”

If this is your first time hearing that, please take the next thirty seconds to let that sink in.

Within that same video, Will Smith provided several examples why living in reality stunts innovation.

Before the airplane, was it realistic to bend some metal and fly it across the ocean safely with people onboard?

Before electricity, was it realistic to flip a switch and miraculously have light display before your eyes?

Both inventions at the time seemed to be completely unrealistic by the majority’s standpoint. Luckily, both the Wright brothers and Thomas Edison thought otherwise and now we get to enjoy the convenience of electricity and flying safely across continents.

With that said, creators do not spend time in what we have all come to know as “the reality of life”. Instead, they create their own reality that fits their unique mindset, ambitions, and perspective.

When someone tells you to “live in reality” or to “be realistic” what they mean to say is “you are doing something different that I don’t quite understand so I wouldn’t advise doing it”. Essentially, they are speaking from their own perspective but lack the ability to see things from your unique point of view.

No one and I mean no one, has either the power nor the right to decide what “reality” should be for you. You are and always have been the creator of your own reality, so remember to shape a life that is worth living for yourself.

Now, I rephrase my original question: after reading my article, which side of life are you going to choose, victim or creator?

Let’s Build A School Together

I was lucky. I was hand-gifted an amazing childhood stock-full of opportunities and access to renowned educational endeavors. Unfortunately, millions upon millions of adolescents did not and still do not, share with me the abundant childhood I was able to have.

I firmly believe every child on the face of this earth should be granted access to educational institutions. It is my great hope that we can make that happen within the life-span of my millennial generation.

With the privilege I was given as a child it is necessary for me to give back to those less fortunate than I. That is why I have launched a campaign through Mindset Mojo and Booster.com to raise $35,000 for the Pencils of Promise Non-Profit Organization to build a school in a developing nation.

You can contribute by purchasing a T-Shirt Here. My goal is to sell 2,850 of the below T-Shirts by the first day of summer (June 21st, 2017). Do What You Believe Is Right

Do What You Believe Is Right

5

…because what is right is no one’s truth but your own

It can get very confusing in this clouded world of information, opinion, and paradigm shifts.

Who are you to believe? What is considered fact? How do you know you are taking the right direction in life?

Your friends tell you to go this way
Your family tells you to go that way
Your partner tells you to go another way

This book tells you to believe in this
That video tells you to believe in that
The societal trend is telling you it’s all whack

It seems as though you are being pulled in a million different directions with the advice of a million different perceptions. How oh how do we overcome this madness?

Put On A Filter

It is not possible to remove the swirling tornado of information, opinion, and advice. That will be spinning around your life until the end of your time here.

The key is to not get picked up by the winds expelled by this metaphorical tornado I speak of. In other words, hear the madness thrown at you by others but only listen to what aligns with your truth.

Many times you may find yourself at the receiving end of unwarranted advice. What those people think you should do often holds very little grounds on what is actually best for you to do.

When this occurs the unwarranted advice givers are usually speaking of how they see the world and from a standpoint that reflects their unique capabilities. Your view of the world and capabilities may be quite different from those you receive advice from.

That is why it is necessary to treat the majority of information, opinions, and advisement as irrelevant to you unless it correlates with your unique perception and skillset.

Do Not Follow Success, Define Your Own

Image result for define your success

Success is relative. Making $1,000,000 a year may be the definition of success for many people. However, that same million dollar income may not even remotely matter to another group of people.

Your objective is to define what success means for you and start moving in that direction. Pay no attention to what others are saying about you, how they look at you, or how society views what you are up to. They don’t see what you see.

As long as you are moving toward your own definition of success you are a successful person. This is because:
“success is the progressive realization of a worthy goal or ideal”
– Earl Nightingale

No one can enjoy your success like it is their own just like you can’t feel victorious when you accomplish a goal that wasn’t designed for you. The universe seems to have a funny little way of helping those who go after their dreams. With that said, go after your definition of success and success will begin to chase you.

Live Your Truth Like Your Life Depends On It

Well…because it does.

There will be dark days where you question yourself continually, feel misunderstood, or want to get on a plane and fly far far away. Trust me, I have been there many times.

When this occurs, don’t get yourself down about it because it is all a part of the process. In fact, the more you begin to love the process involved in your journey the more resilience you will have to bounce back from the low points.

Your truth is who you are, it should mean everything to you. If you are unwilling to say what you want to say, do what you want to do, and be who you want to be…then your soul is as good as dead!

I strongly urge you to let that fire you have inside catch oxygen. Yes, it will feel strange at first and may be a bit startling for others, but once you get in this rhythm of self-alignment there is nothing that can stop you from being the person you set out to be.

5 Steps To Break The Box

5 Steps To Break The Box

3

Image result for stuck in a box

It’s A Boxed World After All

The alarm goes off, it is 7:15 AM. You wake up all warm and cozy in the comfort of your box home or apartment.

You get up and look out the window and see plenty of other boxes all around you that look just like yours.

You get dressed, ready, and move from your box home to your box car, bus, or train.

Your box form of transportation takes you to your box workplace that is fully equipped with artificial lighting, box cubicles and offices, and boxlike people doing boxlike things.

After a long day doing your box work you take your box form of transportation back to the safety of your box home.

You are stressed and tired,  all you want to do is relax and watch some TV. So, you take out your box remote and point it at that black box in front of you that displays artificial sequences defined as entertainment.

Ring ring…buzz buzz…ring ring! All of a sudden, a box in your pocket begins to make noise and vibrate in the middle of your box entertainment time. So, you decide to answer that box and have a conversation with it for the next hour.

Next thing you know it is 11:30 PM so you hop in your comfy box bed, go to sleep, wake up, and do it all again.

I’m Claustrophobic

I have many vivid memories of being locked in tiny, confined spaces or wrapped with enough blankets to instill the illusion of restriction. Physically, I was in absolutely no danger, yet my subconscious mind presented myself with the very real fear of being trapped. Or in other words, missing out on the fruits of life.

Of course, at that age I could not understand the metaphor behind why I hated confined spaces. Subsequently, my youthful lack of self-awareness when put in these positions would result in immediate panic and pitiful attempts of breaking free which normally ended with me crying and begging to be let out.

This “boxed” life that I see all around me could very well be a fabrication designed by this childhood fear of claustrophobia. However, a part of me also wants to believe that this “boxed” life that I speak of is a legitimate concern within the constructs of our 21st century lifestyle standard.

The 21st Century Lifestyle Standard

…is equivalent to “doing fine”. You know what I am talking about, the kind of life where you simply accept where you are.

You finally have a job you don’t hate. Your coworkers are nice, your role has some importance, and the work that you do has some meaning to it. On top of that, you have enough money to pay your bills, save a little, and even afford to take that tropical vacation during the two weeks you are allowed off….Wahooooo!

Oh yes, it is obvious, in the eyes of society as well as your peers you seem to be doing quite fine for yourself. Who would blame you if you stayed right where you are now?

I Would Blame You

Don’t fall for this very acceptable trap of living a life that is “just fine”. If you fall for it, and the majority of people do, do not be surprised if a midlife crisis creeps around the corner.

I blame you because you forgot about your big dreams, goals, and aspirations. You accepted them as dead before even attempting to give them life!

I blame you because you placed a higher importance on receiving a paycheck than pursuing your beloved passion. Sure, your bills will get paid but it is your soul that will be full of pain!

I blame you because your decision operated out of fear of what your peers thought of you. Congratu-freakin-lations! You have just successfully made everyone else happy but yourself.

I blame you because you lost your childhood sense of curiosity and adventure. Instead, you have taken a very “practical” approach to life because you now consider yourself an adult.

Many of you may be reading this and thinking “this isn’t me, I love my life”. If that is truly the case then kudos to you, you are indeed one of the few who actually get it. For the rest who are merely thinking this out of self-justification, please give yourself a long hard look in the mirror and quit lying to the only person who can make the necessary improvements (whisper* – that means you).

5 Steps To Break The Box

1. Quit Your Box Job

Seriously, if you are not loving what you do day in and day out–make the change. It is scary and seemingly impractical but it is extremely worth it. I have dedicated an entire article to the subject, click here to learn why quitting my job was the best thing for me and why it could also be for you.

2. Re-Ignite An Old Passion

Yes, there was once a time in each of our lives where we fully enjoyed doing something. Remember, what that felt like? Having no sense of time or space and doing it because you couldn’t help yourself but to eagerly continue. That’s passion.

Your objective is to reflect on the nostalgia of those youthful times and identify what things you truly enjoyed doing and if you would still enjoy doing them today.

3. Meet Your Passion With Practicality

Be careful though, if you are too practical your passions will forever go back into hiding. The key here is to figure out a way to turn a passion of yours into an income-producing asset. Please be open-minded when you do this, there is always a way to live off your passion.

Maybe you love to surf but think to yourself, “well…I’m not going to make any money off surfing, might as well get myself and adult job and grow up”. That is BIG mistake.

There are always options. You can start a surf shop and sell various surfing gear and merchandise. You can teach private lessons in beautiful tropical areas to eager to learn tourists. You can become a custom surfboard manufacturer and sell them to distributors and retailers.

Never and I say NEVER…sell yourself short on a passion of yours.

4. Live Outside Of Your Box

This holds multiple meanings. To live outside of your box is to go out in the world and experience life firsthand. Meet new people, do new things, travel to new lands, try new hobbies, and genuinely be out in nature.

It also means to live a life unique to your interests. Don’t succumb to societal scripts, lesson plans, or popular ideals. The only way to experience an authentically full life is to live how you see fit.

5. Focus On Quality NOT Quantity

This concept can be applied to many areas of life. In my perspective, it is the key toward a much simpler and happier life.

I may offend some people here but…stop buying so much useless crap! It clutters up your space, wastes your money, and gives you one more thing to worry about. Instead, only buy or bring into your life what truly brings you value. You may love having a ridiculous amount of clothing, but don’t make something as simple as putting on clothes a stressful activity. Seriously, donate 70% of that shit, you only wear 30% anyways.

Another bright idea is to quit wasting your life away trying to please too many people and trying to acquire too many loose friends. Focus your energies on the few people who align with your core values and give them all you have to offer. I promise you, quality relationships will define your happiness.

It Was Scary, But I Made The Right Choice

It Was Scary, But I Made The Right Choice

3

I quit my job this week with no backup plan

My meeting was set for 10:30 am, I planned to meet both of my bosses in the conference room. As I was sitting at my cubicle nervously waiting to quit my job, something bizarre happened.

The power went out for the entire street.

I thought to myself “Is this a sign? Is quitting now the right move?”. I became more and more hesitant as the atmosphere’s strangeness provoked frantic thoughts.

I walked out the office and into the hallway for a few minutes to gather myself. When I strolled back into the office I checked the time, it was 10:30. Almost simultaneously to my noticing of the time…the power came back on.

I once again thought to myself “What the hell is going on here?”.

I sat down in the conference room waiting for my bosses to join me. As I watched them approach from afar my heart began to beat faster than I knew was possible.

When they sat down I thanked them for meeting with me, gave them my little speech of why I wasn’t happy there, and just like that…I quit my job.

Did they get up and start yelling at me? Did my coworkers think less of me? Did the company begin to fail? Did I lose an integral part of who I was?

These questions can all be answered with one word — no.

Your Heart Knows Best

My rational brain was giving me one million and one reasons why I should stay but my heart was giving me one powerful message to leave.

That living thing that beats inside of your chest does not fuck around. Your heart will make it very clear whether or not you are in the right place, you can just feel it.

During my workday my heart would frequently yell at me. He would always give me the same “Sawyer, wtf are you doing here?” speech because he knew I was living a lie. Whenever I felt this anxiety, I knew my heart was pissed at me.

For the better of nine months I was totally putting off my heart’s concerns. The more I resisted the more my heart persisted until one day I heard him loud and clear–
Sawyer, this job is not in alignment with who you truly are. You were built to be creative, to inspire people, and to execute your big, sometimes outlandish ideas. So far, you have been doing a pretty good job of killing me by letting me sit through this lie with you. I’m sick of your shit and I’m not going to take it anymore. Tomorrow you are going to quit and I don’t care what your wussy brain says, he’s too fearful to see the full picture. You’re going to do this for me and I promise you everything will work out just fine.”
I’m living proof that I did listen to my heart because when it all comes down to it, your heart knows what is best for you.

Feel free to share your ‘quitting a job’ story in the comments below, I’d love to hear from you!

Freedom Is A Choice

I became a free man when I chose to listen to my heart. Now it doesn’t matter which direction I go, how much money I make, or how much respect I receive–for as long as I pursue what is within me, I have freedom.

Yes, I am currently unemployed, but happily so. Seriously, what is the point of employment if the majority of your time is spent doing something you hate?…To get a pay check? To pay the bills? To have fun and be yourself one or two days a week? Oh come on! That isn’t living, that is strictly surviving!

I have chosen to live a more fulfilling life:

A life… that is completely aligned with my core values.

A life… where I wake up with mass amounts of energy surging through my veins because I am so god damn excited for the day.

A life… where at any given moment I have the freedom to choose what I want to do and how I want to do it.

A life… where I let the passion flow out of me so I can ignite the dreams of others.

I am on this earth to be ALIVE, not to strictly survive!

Find Your Purpose

See, everyone has a purpose, a destiny one is trying to fulfill. Unfortunately, most people don’t have the slightest clue what that purpose might be for them. I’m not here to throw out nonsense and tell you that your purpose chases you and that you have to wait for inspiration to hit. If that was the case no one would know what to do with themselves.

The only way to truly find out what you love and which direction to take in life is to continually try things. Do you have an interest in art? Great, go take an art class and get drawing! If your passion continues to grow for the subject and you find yourself thinking and talking about it all the time, then you know which direction to take. If this isn’t the case, go to your next interest. Repeat this until you are certain of your path.

A common misconception people believe is that our purpose in life is concrete. In actuality, and I’m sure many older folks out there can back me up on this one, our purpose in life is constantly evolving.

This is why it is so crucial to reflect frequently on yourself as a whole so you can make sure your life simultaneously evolves with who you are as a person.

In Pursuit Of A Dream

I am on a lifelong mission. A mission of growth, adventure, risk-taking, passion, creative pursuits, societal advancement, and of course some good weird fun.

I am confident that human beings possess limitless potential. Napoleon Hill was absolutely right:

Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve

Our minds were meant to be challenged and to attack all things that interest us.

My current purpose in life consists of an obsession for growth. That is the very reason why I am launching Mindset Mojo–a developmental platform aimed to inspire and curate young minds toward their own limitless potential.

Like anything, it is a work in progress, but it is there where I hope you can find the foundation for your own ever-growing pursuits!

We Get From The World What We Invest In Ourselves

We Get From The World What We Invest In Ourselves

1

I heard a life-changing story the other day.

A man was sitting at the kitchen table, drinking his morning cup of coffee and reading the newspaper when he hears his son sprinting down the stairs.

The man promised his son the day before that they would spend the entire day together, so he blocked off his schedule.

He wasn’t quite finished with his routine so he thought of an idea to buy himself a little more time before he and his son took on the day.

He tore out a section of the newspaper a few pages back; it was a full-sized image of the world. He ripped up the page into twenty small pieces, put it on the glass table and said “let’s play a game, here’s a puzzle, as soon as you can put the picture of the world back together we will start our day.”

Then something amazing happened.

Less than three minutes went by. His father looked up and to his immense astonishment, the boy had already put the world back together.

He of course asked him, “how have you managed to put the world back together so quickly?”

His son explained that he had dropped one of the pieces on the floor. As he looked up through the glass table he noticed that there was a picture of a man on the other side of the world. He sat up, flipped all the pieces over, and focused on putting the man back together.

Once he did that, the world just fell into place.

You Are Your Greatest Investment

There is so much meaning and power in that story. When I first heard it, I absolutely teared up with inspirational emotion.

Out of all the things you can invest into, investing in yourself will always provide you the greatest returns. For when you dedicate the most time towards your continual improvement you will soon realize how infinitely capable you are.

Our minds are capable of learning any skill. Would you like to learn Spanish? How about the piano? Have you always been intrigued by computer programming? Whatever it may be, you already posses the power to bring it to fruition. Yet, to actualize these wanted improvements you must invest the time to see them come to life.

Turn Your Shoulds Into Musts

Too many of us fall into this loop when it comes to a new interest:

We get REALLY fascinated about something, dive in head first for a few weeks to a month, hit our first wall, and ultimately give up thinking it is not for us. I have been down that road FAR too many times.

I’m a huge fan of Tony Robbins, one of his key questions in the matter is as followed:

If you want to know the difference in people’s lives it all comes down to what are the things that are musts for you versus shoulds?

Before I truly understood this concept I was essentially on a three month rotational workout plan. I did two months of trying to exercise regularly and one month of giving up because I was “too busy”. How many of you know exactly what I am talking about?

As I reflected back on this it is obvious that exercising was only a should for me and not a must. Once I updated my mindset to make exercising a priority in my life I haven’t missed a single day of some form of deliberate exercise for twenty straight weeks.

This concept applies across the board:

1. Is your love life lacking? Yeah…you should go out and meet more people but it isn’t a must for you so sex is still a once in a blue moon kind of thing.

2. Are your financials out of whack? Yeah…you should pay off your credit card debt but it isn’t a must for you so the debt keeps piling up.

3. How about that online business you’ve always wanted to start? Yeah…you should at least design the website but it isn’t a must for you so you put it off until next year.

I know I went a little overboard with the examples here but I wanted to drive this idea into your fucking heads! Unless you turn your shoulds into musts you will not progress any further than where you are right now.

We All Start Out At Zero

No one is really born smart. Yeah, you may have inherited the potential for high intelligence but like everyone else you have to learn to walk.

Nobody is good at anything when they first start out. Once upon a time…Einstein couldn’t count. Once upon a time…Shakespear had to learn his ABC’s.

All the greats started out at ground zero and took baby steps towards their high achievements. Luckily for us, we were born to learn!

We stumble, crawl, fall, wobble, balance one foot in front of the other and soon we walk. We listen, grunt, scream, cry, form one word at a time and soon we can talk.

An idea sprouts into a business, a conversation sprouts into a relationship, $1 sprouts into $1 million.

The World Is Yours

It is true, you can attain whatever you want in this life. The question is not necessarily “how bad do you want it?”. It is more-so “how much time are you willing to invest in yourself in order to have it?”.

Just like the little boy who put the man together to create the image of the world you too can have the world if you invest in yourself.

Someone Is Going To Win, Why Not Let It Be You?

Someone Is Going To Win, Why Not Let It Be You?

1
Yes, you can be the next Rocky Balboa if you so choose

Someone is going to earn $1 million this year, why not you?

Someone is going to win the Superbowl, why not you?

Someone is going to fall in love, why not you?

Someone is going to lose those 10 lbs, why not you?

Someone is going to score the winning goal, why not you?

Someone is going to land their dream job, why not you?

Someone is going to travel around the world, why not you?

Someone is going to……………….(fill in your goal)

We Are Spectators

“What are you watching?” — “I don’t know, what everyone else is trying to watch”

Sit back, relax and enjoy the show………….

…or sporting event….or YouTube video….or Instagram feed….or news reel… or Snapchat story or….you get my point.

More than ever, we live in an era of passive observation. Every season we obsess about fantasy (insert sport here). Every week there is a catastrophe on the news we must follow. Every day a new “hit” show comes out for us to watch. Every second there is a new tweet for us to view.

We love to sit there and let life happen TO US. Yet in reality, life was meant to be FOR US.

How do you think we landed here within this strange concept we all call “life”? We were created!…and we were not created to just sit there and do nothing with the massive powers we were all given at birth. We are all natural creators, yet some of us use their powers more often than others.

It is time for you to pick up where you left off, whether it be a passion project, sport, or hobby, and fucking create again!

Your TV Will Never Love You Back

But it’s so warm…

I get it. You and your TV have had A LOT of one on one time. Trust me, you are not alone. It has been noted that the average American watches a mind-boggling 4.3 hours of television a day!

It’s tough to let go…but I got news for you Sweetie Pie the feeling ain’t mutual! Do yourself a HUGE favor and toss that damn, good for nothing, TV of yours.

You will see the results almost immediately after the “holy shit, what do I do with myself” period of releasing your TV into the wild. All of those hours you wasted watching other people do cool things ends now. It is finally time for you to do those cool things.

Life’s Cajones Are Swingin’

….It’s time for you to rip those suckers right off!

What is it that you want in life? To have complete financial freedom? To find your true love? To be respected among your peers? Whatever it may be for you, it is certainly not out of reach.

There is a reason why we see so many people publicly achieve success. We glorify them like they aren’t among us as human beings. Yet they absolutely are, just humans, no different from the rest of us on the outside. What we forget, however, is how different the successful among us are on the inside.

The Story of Stallone

Sylvester Stallone was at one point in his life so broke that he was forced to sell his dog for $25 because he couldn’t afford to feed him anymore.

A few weeks later, he had the inspiration to write “Rocky” after watching the 1975 boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Chuck Wepner. He wrote the entire script from beginning to end in 20 straight hours!

Stallone tried to sell his script and was offered $125,000 for it. Despite his grim financial situation, he turned all that money down because he was refused the lead role. Less than a month later he was proposed double his original offer, yet still turned it down because his wishes were not granted.

Finally, due to his willingness to persist, the studio offered him $35,000 and the lead acting role. Stallone immediately accepted and went on to be nominated for best actor in 1976, along with buying his dog back for $15,000.

The inspirational story of “real human” Sylvester Stallone should not be taken lightly. Did his success come from sitting there and letting his financial circumstances get the best of him? Of course not!

He took massive action and clawed his way out of the hopeless ditch that was once his life and created a whole new version in which to be proud of.

Create Your Own Story Of Success

We are all capable of infinite possibilities. Your mind is the master of creation, your soul is the master of energy, and you as whole is the master of your own destiny.

It’s nice to hear all of these shots of inspiration, but in reality, they are deemed useless without massive action. Back me up here Tony!!

“The path to success is to take massive, determined action.” — Tony Robbins

See, inspiration and motivation are simply words, ideas, and thought provocations that give you energy. If you do absolutely nothing with this energy I give to you today, nothing will improve in your life. The only thing in between setting goals and actually achieving them is action!

I leave you with just one question?

Someone is going to win……why not let it be YOU.

Top 5 Daily Habits That Wire Your Mind For Success

Top 5 Daily Habits That Wire Your Mind For Success

1

Our minds are inherently wired to survive, NOT to succeed

After millions of years of evolutionary trial and error, or natural selection as Charles Darwin put it, the homo sapiens proved to be the dominant species. Was this the case because humans were expert risk takers or fear conquerors?Quite the opposite actually.

We as human beings were designed to survive, reproduce, protect our young so they can survive and reproduce again. Success has never been part of our thought process or vocabulary until recently in the lifespan of our species.

Risk Aversion = Survival

Let us put on our time machine hats for a minute and take a journey back in time.

The human beings that survived the rough elements of the stone age without a doubt tried to avoid risk or loss at all costs. Think about it, when one is living that close to the edge of life, to risk or lose even a little may put there entire existence in jeopardy.

Within the Stone Age, having a cautious approach to risk absolutely increased our chances of survival — and thus creating offspring. Their descendants (us now) with this genetic inheritance, would therefore be more likely to avoid risk as well.

Our Lizard Brain

Our amygdala or as I like to put it our “lizard brain” is our emotional control center where our primitive instincts reside. This part of our limbic system is responsible for the fight or flight response we experience when fear sets in.

Although the amygdala is still crucial for our survival, such as our desire to have sex (let’s keep that one) some of its functions are severely outdated.

——————————————————————————————————————–

In this day and age, success is strongly and positively correlated to being a master of your own emotions. The goal is not to go against your natural instincts but more so use them when it’s advantageous to do so.

After years of my own evolutionary trial and error I’ve worked up my top 5 methods to wire your mind for success.

My Top 5 Methods To Wire Your Mind For Success

This dude knows what I am talking about!

1. Meditate

Meditation has been the single most beneficial habit towards my success. If you choose to do nothing else, above all I encourage you to meditate.

What is meditation?

Meditation can realistically be found in all things, whether it be playing a sport, being in nature, or sitting there staring at the wall (The Chubirka Method).

My personal definition for meditation is the practice of being in an elevated state of awareness.

How do you meditate?

There is no “one size fits all” method of meditation. Some excellent guides can be found here and here.

Simply for your reference, I’ll explain how I do it:

1. Pick out 1 distraction free zone
2. Sit in a comfortable position (most gurus recommend the Lotus Pose) I’m not that flexible so I just sit in a chair with a pillow behind my back…Yes, it’s OK to do that.
3. Listen to binaural beats on any alpha brain wave setting (8–12 Hz) — requires headphones
4. Start with your eyes open and be aware of your surroundings
5. Breathe slowly in through your nose and out through your mouth
6. Gradually close your eyes and focus your attention on the binaural beats
7. When thoughts or noises arise, be aware of them but let go
8. Do this for 10–20 minutes a day

Why daily meditation wires your mind for success

I am on my fifth month of meditating regularly and the results are massive. This daily practice has allowed me the freedom to choose how I use my emotions.

When fear sets in, meditation has taught me to first understand what it is that I fear in that moment — then properly label that fear as either a useless social construct or a legitimate danger.

See, our fear response from our amygdala does not put labels on things. Fear is felt the same way whether you are being chased by a rabid grizzly or giving a presentation in front of your fellow students or colleagues.

Meditation will give your mind the organizational ability to sort your emotions based on the situation.

2. Exercise

Just like meditation, exercise can come in a variety of forms. This is something I do not necessarily need to explain to you, we all already know what exercising is, how to do it, and that it is good for our health. Nevertheless, I want to explain why daily exercise can wire your mind for success.

Why daily exercise wires your mind for success

Exercising every day is insanely fucking hard! Yet its rewards greatly outweigh the high level of difficulty.

Exercising daily primes our mind to endure pain and resistance every single day. If you continually make exercising the most difficult part of your day and you commit to it, the rest of your life starts to become a breeze.

Immediately following your workout you feel amazing! This is because during the process our brains’ emit a plethora of elevating hormones and chemicals.People pay top dollar to do drugs that emit these same chemicals, do yourself a favor and produce that shit yourself.

One of my early mottos in life was look good, feel good, play good”. When you exercise daily you get all three. You look sexy as fuck, you feel more confident and inevitably you begin to make life your bitch.

3. Read, Listen, or Watch Inspirational Material

This tiny habit pays out huge dividends. When I wake up I make sure to read at least one inspirational article. This is the sure-fire way to start your day off right.

Before letting your mind think or act for itself, fill it with motivation and optimism.

Why daily inspiration wires your mind for success

Answer yourself honestly — when you wake up what is the first thing you do? Do you check your phone for texts, emails, or social media notifications? I succumb to this sometimes as well, I think we all do.

Anyways, if that does sound like you, then your day begins by reacting to things. This habitually wires your mind to be reactive rather than proactive.

I get it, you use your phone for an alarm, it is impossible to not see notifications in the morning. Rather than paying them any mind, turn off your alarm and pick up a book or pick out an inspiring article (like mine!) on medium to read.

If you fill your mind with positivity every single day, over time you will naturally become an optimist no matter how big of a Negative Nelly you once were.

Having a mind full of optimism is one of the first crucial steps toward leading a successful life.

4. Practice Solitude

Practicing solitude simply put; is the act of being alone for an extended period of time. Every day I spend a great deal of time by myself, and I enjoy that time of solitude.

Now I am no “lone wolf”, I just choose to have several hours of alone time everyday, which to me are the most important hours.

Why daily solitude wires your mind for success

When you are alone for extended periods of time it is impossible to ignore that little voice inside your head. Most people’s minds are primed for negative thoughts so they will do anything to distract themselves….from themselves. This is a commonly traveled pathway to destruction.

When you continually distract yourself in avoidance of addressing the real problems within you — instead of them disappearing they compound and get stronger. This can later lead to drug dependence, violence, emotional breakdowns, midlife crises, and other self-abusive behaviors.

This is why it is extremely important to spend time by yourself to literally get to know who you are as a person. In solitude you develop peace within yourself, you learn your direction in life, understand and address your emotions, and ultimately become whole.

5. Take Cold Showers

This is a much more recent habit of mine, one that originally occurred without choice. I just bought a house and the water heater wasn’t working, so the first few days I took cold showers. Although bizarre on the forefront, the benefits of cold showers are surprisingly positive.

I myself am a HUGE fan of hot steamy showers. I mean they are fucking amazing right? I am not telling you to go ahead and eliminate the awesomeness of a hot shower but I am asking you to consider a quick cold shower in the morning.

Why daily cold showers wire your mind for success

There is nothing worse than having to take a cold shower in the morning…but is it really as bad as people make it out to be?

When you step inside a freezing cold vortex of spraying water your whole body is jolted awake. You are so cold that your body automatically reacts by forcing heavy breaths out of you. After a minute or so, this turns into complete and utter euphoric lucidity.

Taking cold showers forces you very quickly to become less of a pussy and much more of a strong individual. However, to fully reap this benefit you need to do it daily — which as a residual result teaches you discipline.

A disciplined mind that is alert, lucid, and strong is almost unstoppable and this can be gradually trained with the help of one cold shower a day.

The Power Of Asking: My Personal Experiences

The Power Of Asking: My Personal Experiences

The hardest part in attaining what you want is having the courage to ask for it.

In my previous life, I lived complacently and rarely did I ever ask for more. This ultimately led to exactly that — nothing more.

When the girl I liked walked past me, did I chase after her and ask her out? Of course not! That required stepping outside of my comfort zone, so I let her walk by and forever out of my life.

When I studied in the library and was distracted by a few loud-mouthed idiots did I politely ask them to STFU? Of course not! That required confrontation, so I let them continue to distract me and proceeded to get nothing done.

When I received a poor grade on an essay that I disagreed with did I talk with the teacher about it? Of course not! That required an uncomfortable conversation with a superior, so my grade remained poor.

All of my above examples allude to a this singular concept — if you lack the courage to ask, the only thing that is definitive is receiving that of which you don’t want.

Three years ago I started to notice a tremendous difference in my life. As I reflected back on the nostalgia of many small victories I realized what made the difference — I was fearless in asking for what I wanted.

My Personal Experiences Asking For Things

European Travels — October 2014

After being written up for the fourth time, I was removed from my former university’s abroad program. Instead of letting my dreams of European Travels disappear, I asked the Assistant Dean of Students if I could be re-instated into the program if I got my shit together and met with the counselor every week.

After 6 weeks I was re-instated and went on to visit 7 different European countries over the next four months.

CEO Mentor — November 2014

Even though I wasn’t part of the required class, I showed up to my university’s Idea Workshop. This event was like musical chairs for pitching ideas to the rich and powerful of Cleveland, Ohio. I pitched my ride sharing idea ‘Vroom’ to the CEO of Dzugan Physiologic (a leading restorative medicinal company) and instantly felt a connection with him. I went ahead and asked him to have lunch with me to keep the connection going.

He is now one of my good friends and top mentors.

Six Months Free— January 2015

Six months into the lease of renting my first apartment the bank tried evicting my friends and I. After much research I discovered our landlord did not possess proper title on the house and was illegally renting it to us. I asked the paralegal who represented the bank if we could live in the house until our lease was up and continue to “maintain” it.

The bank accepted and we got to live in that house rent free for the next six months.

Free Marketing Team—September 2015

As required by my marketing professor, we needed to conduct market research and perform a full-fledged marketing campaign on a pre-existing company. I was working on an entrepreneurial venture at the time and asked my professor if I could choose my own company for the project.

She accepted and as a result I was handed a marketing team that worked on my venture over the next year for free.

Got The Job—July 2016

I had already sent out 50+ online job applications to various real estate firms and did not get a single interview. I altered my efforts and began showing up to real estate firms unannounced and asked for interviews in person.

Within one week I had four interviews and got hired at Marcus & Millichap — the #1 commercial real estate investment firm in the nation.

Lawyered The Lawyer—December 2016

After leaving our apartment clean and undamaged our landlord withheld over $2,000 of our security deposit. I asked the local court if they would hear our case against him.

The court accepted the case and we went on to win $2,011.74 in compensatory damages despite the fact our landlord is also a practicing lawyer.

Homeless To Homeowner—March 2017

After being turned down by several financial institutions, and being denied a mortgage by Keybank at the final step of closing on my first house…I almost lost all hope. I got in touch with a friend and asked one more mortgage company if they would process my loan.

Having an offer accepted on a different house and roughly two more months of hard work, my loan was processed and I sit here today happily in the new house I can finally call my home.

Some Words of Wisdom

My goal sharing these experiences with you was not to boast or brag. More so it was to prove to you that asking for things can bring extraordinary results.

Sometimes I like to be poetic:

It doesn’t cost anything to get up and ask,
but it costs an opportunity to do nothing and sit back.
Have the courage to speak up in your interest,
and the joys of life will bear to be your witness.

How To Leverage Fear To Get What You Want

How To Leverage Fear To Get What You Want

1
Let’s face it. We are all a bunch of pussies when it comes to our fears. And yes, I am in fact one of these pussies.

The question is not, how do I sack up and overcome my fears? It is, how do I properly leverage what I fear to get what I desire?

If you are like most you probably are not even sure what the heck that is supposed to mean. Instead of explaining it myself, I’ll let one of my favorite people do it for me. Will Smith put it best:

“I’m motivated by fear. I hate being afraid to do something, so what I developed in my younger years was an attitude to attack things I was afraid of”

Okay, I lied…I’ll help with the explanation. If you break down what Will Smith is saying you can find some pure gold in his wisdom. First of all, he is “motivated by fear”.

If I was in a room with 1,000 people in it and I said to them “say ‘I’ if you feel excited and motivated when you think about your fears.” I can almost guarantee that I can count the amount of people that said ‘I’ with one hand.

This is extremely disappointing because it means that for the majority of us, we let fear limit our desires. Will Smith conversely has done the exact opposite to everyone else which has amassed him great success, fame, and fortune.

Step 1: Let Fear Drive Your Goals

Ask yourself these two questions:

1. What do you fear? (List everything)
2. What do you run away from at every opportunity? (Be specific)

This may seem like a simple exercise, but think again. It may take you several hours for your stubborn brain barrier to admit you have fears and actually write them down.

Once you have created your two lists, make connections between the two. For instance, within your fear list you may have written “I fear public speaking”. Check your second list for direct correlations to this said fear. Within this example, your second list might read “At every opportunity I run away from getting outside of my comfort zone”.

Using the above exercise transform your found correlation into a coherent fear statement. It may look something like this “I fear public speaking because I avoid stepping outside of my comfort zone.”

Now flip-flop your fear statement: “I need to step outside of my comfort zone in order to tackle my fear of public speaking”.

Lastly, turn your amazing discovery into an actionable goal. For the sake of congruence I will use the above example again. Your actionable goal in this case may read “By January 1st, 2018 I will be the lead on Project X and will be the obvious choice due to my exceptional public speaking skills learned through my daily efforts of proposing ideas at my place of work”.

Within this exercise, you will be able to leverage fear to help identify an important goal of yours with the necessary system in place to achieve it.

Do not forget these words; when turned upside down, your fears become some of your most important goals.

Step 2: Approach Fear Like You Were 6 Years Old

Why are people so afraid of what they are afraid of? As Franklin D. Roosevelt so famously said:

“The only thing we have to fear, is fear itself”

Personally, I blame society for this. Think about it. REALLY think about it. Before we were all immersed in the insanity of social constructs, we were children. We virtually feared nothing.

We would explore unknown forests, pick up strange small creatures, blurt out our honest thoughts, and all around did whatever the fuck we wanted to.

As we grew older and were dragged through the school system something detrimental started to change within us. We feared deeply how others viewed us. As we all know, this only gets worse with age and continues on into the work world if you let it.

To circle back, Will Smith had said “what I developed in my younger years was an attitude to attack things I was afraid of”. Will Smith had this amazing ability to look at fears in a different light. He did not see fear as something to be afraid of, but more so an adventure to be curious in.

How oh how is he able to do that!? I’ll give you the answer…he looked at fear through the lens of a child.

When I was six years old I would see a snake and think to myself “that snake looks like a lot of fun to play with!” I would then proceed to pick up the damn snake.

Jump ten years into the future. Sixteen year old me would look at that same snake and think “holy shit..holy shit…it’s moving towards me!” I would then proceed to run away like a little girl.

Do you see the picture I am painting for you? As we go on through life we increasingly become more fearful due to all the floating opinions, theories, ideologies, blog posts (I know I know), etc.

We live in a world that is overloaded with information, so much in fact, that we do not know what to believe or even how to think for ourselves. Essentially, we live in fear due to paralysis by analysis because of how goddamn knowledgeable we are!

This is my suggestion to you — throw out all that useless knowledge crap and start thinking for yourself. When you are up against a fear of yours, approach it like you were your six year old self that didn’t know any better than to just give it a good ol’ try! When you do this, your fears will slowly transform into exciting adventures for you to both enjoy and experience.

Step 3: Tying It All Together

Excellent work! You have made it this far…now give yourself a pat on the butt. At this point you should have successfully turned a fear of yours into an actionable goal. That in itself is 90% of the battle.

You have also learned how to properly address your fears when they arise…like a 6 year old of course! Now you just need to start putting the two together and execute the shit out of your goal.

How To Execute Like A Boss:

1. Write your fear driven goal on one side of an index card. Flip it over and write 3–5 daily or weekly systems to achieve it.
2. Visualize achieving your goal several times a week. Truly see yourself living out your goal. Feel it and see it happening within your imagination and soon you will see it before your very eyes.

3. Do as all Olympic athletes do when the pressure is on — trick your mind to label ‘nervousness’ as ‘excitement’.

4. Obstacles will be thrown your way and doubt will fill your soul. The most important rule for executing like a boss is to continually believe in yourself and persevere until the end.

“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.”
— Calvin Coolidge
